Mold Killer Recipe

Our household had been feeling a little under the weather off and on for the last two or three months. Yesterday, I went down into our basement and discovered what I thought to just be lots of dust was actually mold. I’ve been down there a few times and for the most part, it just seemed like dust, but upon closer inspection there was a clear pattern to the growth that indicated mold and not dust.
it wasn’t the dreaded black mold, but we still speculated it was probably the source of our ills and we concocted a plan to get rid of it. The first thing we did was dust off the dehumidifier and turn it on. We also had an ozone generator, so we turned that on as well.
Today, I went and bought some grain alcohol (EverClear) and a garden sprayer. I mixed up the following recipe:
- 2 parts water
- 1 part grain alcohol
- 1/4 part lemon juice
- Several drops of sage essential oil
I wasn’t able to actually find a recipe online that everyone vouched for, so I chose to combine the ingredients of two recipes that seemed to get more rave than the rest of the crowd.
To my surprise, this stuff works! I could especially see the effectiveness on cloth materials of chairs and suitcases where I sprayed the surfaces down with a fine mist. I attached a low-flow nozzle to the sprayer and it was more than enough to apply the solution. Its too early to tell if its truly effective in controlling and even eradicating the mold, but a trip back down to the basement doesn’t smell nearly as musky.
